My young son and I have absolutely loved the sports sessions run by HomeStart Craven. The hugely enthusiastic, warm and engaging coaches really helped my son develop new abilities, learn about different sports and most of all, have loads of fun! The sessions have helped us get active together and meet local families. By the end of the sessions, my son had greatly improved a range of key skills while I came away with some brilliant new games and activities to keep him entertained!
We've really enjoyed the sessions! Great how it builds on skills week after week. Didn't think my son would be able to play tennis at 3 but now he's holding a racket and hitting the ball over the net! My son's listening skills have improved which he needs to develop for carpet time at school. Thanks!
A fabulous opportunity for my son to try tennis before committing to lessons. He has developed some basic techniques including how to stand whilst holding the racket and catching a ball. I as a parent have met other parents, some of whom will start at the same primary school as my son in September. So he will know their faces and I will know their parents. Overall a great opportunity for all involved to mix with the local community and play tennis
We were instantly welcomed by coach Jonny and Fred. They were brilliant at engaging Arthur and all the children, and offered gentle encouragement and support – tailoring activities to specific levels of ability. We explored new sports and developed different skills and techniques whilst having lots of fun! Thank you
I've seen my child's confidence grow after receiving lots of praise and support when learning new skills. He has developed a better attitude and is now more willing to have a try when he finds an activity challenging. This will definitely help him as he starts school. It's been lots of fun learning new games together.
My son learned that a lesson is to practice, get better and that it's OK to not be able to do something.

A message from HomeStart Craven …

Since the charity started in 2010, we’ve offered both practical and emotional support to hundreds of families throughout Craven through our volunteer home visiting service. During 2020, we supported more families than ever before.

We are aware that both physical health and mental well-being are crucial factors in a family’s ability to cope with change in a positive way, we were sure that keeping children active and maintaining connections with family members and community groups was paramount.  

And so the Six Week Sunday Sportathon was established!  Funding was secured from a variety of sources, including Sport England, The Pixel Fund, Magdalan and local businesses and the aims of our project were simple … families would come together in a non-judgemental environment to play, learn new skills, make new friends and have FUN!  We knew this fit with the ethos of Skipton Tennis Centre and we were confident that the coaches could deliver a safe, varied and fun programme for 3-5 year olds, many of whom would not have joined in without our support.

To date, we’ve offered 176 parent-and-child places on the six week Sunday morning blocks, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and we are delighted to be able to continue our project for the whole of the 2022-2023 academic year.

Come along and join us – ALL 3-5 year olds living in Craven are welcome; all they need to bring is lots of enthusiasm, big smiles … and a grown up!
